Why Gentle Baby Isn’t Just for Babies!

Gentle Baby brings to mind all of the beautiful, lace trimmed bassinets from storybooks, with a sweet sleeping baby inside.  In that sense, Gentle Baby really does it's own advertising! It's a soothing, relaxing essential oil blend for babies, but there is so much more to it- enough that we had to write a quick post about it for you, lest you miss out on some of it's other great capabilities!

Gentle Baby features coriander, geranium, palmarosa, lavender, ylang ylang, chamomile, bergamot, lemon, jasmine and rose essential oils, but it's really the coriander and the chamomile I want to focus on here.  So much of new babies' upset is usually connected to their bellies.  Gas, bloating, and all of the adjusting to their new diet makes for some upset tummies.

Coriander seeds were found in the tomb of Ramses II, and it's not too much of a stretch to imagine he probably overindulged in some rich food in his time.  Coriandrum sativum has anti-inflamatory properties, as well as antioxidant, antimicrobial, and more, but it's what it does for the pancreas and the intestines that helps more in this case. Supporting pancreatic function here is going to help Junior digest more effectively and reduce bloating.

German chamomile just takes that skill set, and blows it out of the water. Chamomilla recutita is frequently utilized for its anti-inflammatory action, but it improves digestion in a big way, along with overall biliary support. So when that cheeseburger you've been dying for upsets the baby's stomach, German chamomile comes to the rescue! I frequently recommend chamomile for any case where there's a spasmodic quality to cramping, whether that be intestinal, or otherwise.  Anyone who's had a bad case of gas can completely understand why their sweet little faces twist into angry howls- that is painful! Gentle Baby can be diluted 1:1 in a carrier oil for a soothing baby massage, and can be used to make topical applications for diaper rashes and skin rashes.

So, those are all great reasons why Gentle Baby soothes your baby's belly, but is there anything else it can help with?  We don't really want a one-trick-pony in the medicine cabinet.

You're in luck.

Remember all those other oils in the blend?  Those show up en force in the skin department.  It is very beneficial for stretch mark concerns, scar tissue, improves skin elasticity and even helps improve wrinkles.  Lots of mamas-to-be use Gentle Baby for a relaxing massage oil (diluted in a carrier oil 1:1) before and during birth for it's ability to reduce anxiety and stress (probably a good thing for Dad at that point too!).

Still want to see more?  Here's a few more honorable mentions in Gentle Baby's list... great for skin & hair (especially where dryness is a factor), emotional balance, psoriasis (dryness again), insomnia, improved wound healing & reduced scar formation, as well as a mild protectant against sun exposure (but not a complete sunscreen).

Kind of hard to beat as an all-around skin friendly oil! How will you bring Gentle Baby out of the nursery and into your skin care routines?
